Abstract

Description

The aim of this Bachelor’s thesis was to find out how transformational and informational preaching looks like, not only in foreign specialist literature, but as two baptist church- communicators in Tartu were analyzed. Besides the question „How does those two types of communcations look like“, author was also aimed to be clear that the first results were not accidental and preachers themselves knew their goals and outcomes. The method was an comparative analyze of four speaking events. Two of those were held at 23. december, 2006. It was the day when both churches were giving their Christmas message. Other two speaking events were held on 6th May. Also two interviews were made with both speakers, just before last speaking event. Transformational preachings goal is to transform persons life. Make a life change. Informational preaching says that most important is the information that Bible gives. Both theories have their own history and time of development, but informational preaching is more traditional and wide-spread in the culture of church. It is important to make difference between those two approaches, because both can be very effective, but only in certain environments. Transformational works better for bigger auditorium, where people have gathered, but not certainly to study. Informational preaching is effective in school-type of environments, where people have gathered to learn. As it was stated in the initial hypothesis, the results of the thesis showed that both speaking theories can be found in Tartu. Tartu Salemi baptist church, where Meego Remmel was speaking, uses informational approach. Tartu Risttee church (whose motherchurch is Salem) is mainly with transformational elements. From analyzing all the sermons and both interviews, it came out that both preachers have their own unique way of communicating. Both, Peep Saar and Meego Remmel, know what and how they want to communicate, even though the theory of this thesis was new to them.
