HELP/General Information

This software package is designed to help analyzing the data collected
with the most advanced heart rate measuring equipment available. The
software is meant for use on IBM PC/AT/XT computers and compatible
equipment. PC-DOS/MS-DOS operating system is required with version number
2.1 or higher. Hard disk is recommended, but the software can also run in
 computers having only floppy disks.

The software uses a pop-down menu structure. Menu items are selected by
arrow keys of the keyboard together with the Enter key or by pressing the
highlighted letter on the item (normally the initial letter). ESC key can
be used for cancelling the latest key input to return to the earlier
display. F1 key brings to the screen the on-line help display. One
screenful of help is available for each main menu item.

For more details about this software, please read carefully the attached
software manual and also get acquainted with the high class heart rate
 measuring equipment you have bought.

HELP/MemoryTransfer

This is the selection for transferring the heart rate data from the heart
rate monitor to the computer memory. The POLAR Interface unit is used for
interfacing the HR monitor to the RS 232 serial port of the computer.

Two different types of interfaces are available, depending on the type of
HR monitor you are using. Please check the main menu Defaults setting for
the HR Monitor Type to match the one you are using. Please also check that
the interface you are using is the correct type for your monitor. One more
setting to check is the serial port to use, two alternatives are
available, COM1 and COM2, please make sure to connect the cable to the
port defined in the default settings.

The cables included in the software package facilitate connection to 25
and 9 pin male D-connectors in the computer chassis with the standard IBM
pinning arrangement. Please check that your computer uses the same
arrangement as given in the POLAR software manual. In case of differences,
 please contact your dealer.

HELP/File

Save
Saving the heart rate files on hard disk or diskette. The Defaults
selection in the main menu allows you to set the default directory path
where the saving is done. You can change the path if you wish. The
software names the file according to the date. You can, however, rename
the file as you like. A note of text can be attached to each file to
describe the data. It will be displayed below the heart rate curve shown
 with the View Curve selection.

Retrieve Fetching a saved file from hard disk or diskette for review.

Erase Removing a previously saved file.

Import Fetching a file saved with an earlier version of POLAR
               software.

Create Sd Creating subdirectories without exiting the program.

Rename Renaming a previously saved heart rate file.

HELP/View

Curve
Shows the heart rate versus time. The time axis can be expanded and
compressed as desired. Average, Maximum and Recovery heart rates can
be calculated over selected time intervals. Two curves can be overlaid
 for comparison.

Distribution
Shows the distribution of heart rate values in categories of 10 bpm.

Listing
Shows the heart rate values and the time markers numerically.

Intermediate/Lap times
Shows intermediate (split) and lap times (time differences between
 successive intermediate times).

HR Limits
Shows the heart rate alarm limits used and the times of swapping
the primary and secondary sets of heart rate limits (applicable only to
POLAR VANTAGE XL and POLAR SPORT TESTER).
6
HELP/Test

Conconi
This test function is meant for defining the anaerobic threshold heart
rate. Heart rate and time measurement with the POLAR heart rate meter is
utilized to create a heart rate versus speed diagram with gradually
increasing speed and heart rate. The angle point will define the
approximate anaerobic threshold value. Approximate values for maximum
heart rate and aerobic threshold rate are also defined with this test.
Please refer to the software manual for more details.

Interval
This test is especially applicable to POLAR VANTAGE XL and
POLAR SPORT TESTER monitors. The double timer is used for generating
the alternating alarms for exertion and rest periods. The software will
calculate the average recovery values, maximum, minimum and average heart
rates and times spent which together can be used to indicate the progress
 in fitness.

HELP/Statistics

File Summary
Allows you to define the Target Zone limits and the relevant exercising
intervals to process each heart rate file into a "sum" file. It will
include the basic information, how long time was spent in the Target Zone
and how many percent of the exercising time was optimal. For serious
athletes, also the time spent above the Target Zone is relevant since this
kind of exercise, when correctly used, increases the high speed endurance.
The Target Zone information is presented as a three level stack bar graph
 for clarity.

Multiple File Summary
Allows analysis of several exercises simultaneously and summarizing them
to one single stack bar graph to indicate the total time and percentages.
The files summarized must first be processed to sum files using the File
Summary selection. If unprocessed files are selected, software
automatically requires you to process them one by one.

Totals
Allows you to create cumulative files where sum files can be added one by
 one.

HELP/Defaults

Path
This setting defines the default disk drive and directory path where the
heart rate files are located. This is the first directory to be searched
 in the file operations.

Serial Port
This setting defines the RS 232 serial port to be used for data transfer.
Either COM1 or COM2 can be selected.

Display Adapter
This setting defines the graphics adapter installed in the computer. IBM
CGA, IBM EGA, IBM VGA, Hercules or a compatible adapter can be selected.
If you are not certain what kind of adapter your computer uses, try the
OPTIMAL CHOICE, the software will then try to identify its environment.

Output Device
This setting defines the printer device for creating hardcopies.

HR Monitor Type
This setting defines the POLAR heart rate monitor type used.
9
HELP/Batch

Input
Allows you to transfer data as rapidly as possible from several HR
monitors one by one. You only need to observe the instructions and
messages on the display screen and change and operate the monitors on
the interface unit. The software names the Batch Input files
automatically. You can also change the default file names for example
in accordance with the persons in your team.

Output
Allows you to print out several heart rate curves to hardcopies in row,
based on pre-selected heart rate files. Depending on your printer device,
options for manual or automatic paper feeding are available.
