The main purpose of this thesis is to analyze Elaine’s identity formation process through her relationship with her childhood best friend and tormentor Cordelia. The thesis consists of an introduction, two main chapters and a conclusion. The introduction gives a short summary of the novel, as well as presents the main aspects that are further discussed in the thesis.
