The processes in the society can be influenced through the public debate. The public debate has important significance for the political decisions from the viewpoint of the development of quality and democracy. If the discussion concerning all the relevant parties precedes the decision-making, one can hope for taking into account all the consequences accompanying the decision. The media offers an opportunity the debate be public and the corresponding information accessible for everyone. Besides the traditional media the websites of the dailies offered an opportunity to introduce the programmes and communicate with the voters in the these elections. The special website of Postimees Online on the elecetions postimees.riigikogu.ee developed into one of the most palpable online channel which tied together all the election news, the op-ed articles and the interviews. The paper compares the issues raised in the paper and online edition by using the content analysis and the qualitative analysis and studies how much the online was capable to bring out the differenet issues and to create the real discussion among the candidates and the reades besides the traditional media. Being created purely for commercial reasons by AS Postimees the special website on the elections raised eight social or economic issues two months before the elections and the issues created the discussion between the different politival parties in the same environment and due to the specifics of the online text the reader could intervene the debate. In addition to the studied 519 online news on the elections the online offered an opportunity for the candidates and the readers to have discussion on the separate forum and guided the readers to the blogis of the politicians or to the official websites of the parties. The analysis of the political news and the op-ed aricles in the Postimees paper edition in January- February showed that the traditional media continues to commercialize and the news are presented as simply and ludicly as possible to keep the reader attached to the newspaper. The real discussion between the parties in the Postimees' paper edition came to nothing and the opportunity to introduce their programmes was given to the parties only in some queries, debates and interviews with the party leaders. The emergence of online media in much more real way combining also more issues before the parliamentary elections in 2007 shows that the relevant discussion from the viewpoint of deliberative democracy between the different layers of the society will take place in the online environment.application/pdfH Social Sciences (General)bakalaureusetöödmeediatrükiajakirjandusvõrguväljaandedpoliitiline kommunikatsioonparteidvalimisvõitlusdiskussioonidPostimees (ajaleht)Erakondadevaheline diskussioon Postimees Online'is ja paberväljaandes jaanuar-veeburar 2007Thesis
