Abstract

The objective of this bachelor thesis "Internal Communication Habits of Employees Working in Different Positions in a Manufacturing Company: Using the Example of A. Le Coq" is to analyse how employees from different levels participate in internal communication and what are the main differences in their habits of participation in the internal communication. The first objective of the paper is to analyse the whole internal communication of a manufacturing company called A. Le Coq. The author used a qualitative method – an interview for his research. The author gathered information from 11 employees from four different levels of organisational hierarchy. Based on the results of the thesis, the author can say that A. Le Coq has not stated its goals of internal communication. Despite that, employees from all levels confirm that they are sufficiently informed. Although there are many differences in the internal communication habits among employees from different levels, one thing that all the employees agreed is that they are well informed. From the three analysed levels, the internal communication habits of the lower level employees differ most from ohter levels. One definite reason is their shift-based working schedule. This means that their superiors need to coordinate the flow of information so that the information that is required for the lower level employees reaches them at right time. The author finds that the middle level employees use oral communication as well as written communication and surprisingly even handwritten communication for coordinating information to their subordinates, the lower level employees. In other words, the superiors use communication channels that are most acceptable for their subordinates. Another issue concerning the usage of different communication channels among the lower level employees that distinguishes them from their superiors is the possibility to use computers during working hours. In A. Le Coq the lower level employees generally cannot use a computer, therefore they communicate more orally than their superiors. The higher level and the middle level employees claim that they interact with co-workers from different levels. Among the lower level, A. Le Coq employees say that they usually interact only with co-workers from the same level. All in all, the analysis of difference in internal communication habits' among workers from different levels shows that one cannot interact with all co-workers the same way, using the same channels. The information/message sender has to consider channels that are acceptable and used by the receivers. It is important to know how to send your message to your subordinate, superior or co-worker from the same level in order to ensure that the receiver gets the message in time and understands it in a way the sender has meant.
