Abstract

English as a lingua franca (ELF) is a field researched exponentially more in recent years and thus requires more attention as the field develops .In Estonia, however, ELF is a relatively unexplored field and the thesis at hand attempts to contribute to the development of the field of ELF in Estonia as best as it can. This thesis takes a look at a number of characteristic features of ELF in the context of Estonian ELF speakers and makes an effort to describe the peculiarities that are present in the data analyzed. The introduction summarizes the pertinent literature in addition to providing an overview of the aims of the thesis and explains why the thesis at hand is necessary. The first part provides a theoretical background for the thesis and a description of the occurrences that are described in the analysis of the interviews. The second part takes a look at the interviews and the findings, describing what was found and analyzing the data, and providing a set of ideas for future research and a set of data for further analysis.
