    Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) has become an important standard for the graphical modeling of business processes. BPMN diagrams can be used at every operational level, from business users to process implementers. The aim of this thesis was to enhance an experimental BPMN diagram automatic layout tool by adding support for data objects and data stores. Manually created BPMN diagrams were analyzed to identify placement principles for data nodes, based on which automatic layout rules were developed. As a result of this thesis, support for data nodes was added to the tool, significantly increasing its potential applications. This thesis provides an important foundation for further development of the tool towards a comprehensive and user-friendly BPMN layout solution.
