The Master's thesis „The Analysis of the1988 ESSR Joint Plenum of Creative Unions and Its Speeches“ is a study on the joint plenums of the ESSR creative unions' boards held from 1-2 April, 1988 in the large hall of Toompea castle (then the hall of sessions of the Supreme Soviet of the ESSR), and speeches given there. The official reason for this gathering was to discuss the role of creative unions in carrying out the decisions of the 27th Congress of the CPSU and preparing for the 9th all-union party conference. At the same time, the plenum of creative unions represented the transformation of cultural sphere into political sphere, and therefore, constituted the breaking point of the times of perestroika and a step closer on the way towards the independence of the Republic of Estonia. As architect and the organizer of the plenum of creative unions Ignar Fjuk said in an expert interview: “When this event was over, it was called the new parliament of Estonia”. During the two-day plenum the speeches were given by 14 writers, 8 journalists and architects, 6 theater people, 4 artists, 2 musicians, historians, candidates of philosophy and one candidate of philology. The floor was also taken by five politicians of whom Indrek Toome, the Secretary of the Estonian Communist Party (ECP), occupied the highest position. Toome said the opening words of the plenum and, also, summed it up. The results of the expert interviews conducted in the course of this study enable to conclude that the plenum was a successful rhetorical action the aim of which was to ensure as democratic regime as possible by elating the nation and undermining the authorities. All the other raised questions served the purpose of the main goal without attracting greater individual attention. Both qualitative and quantitative analyses of the content and the interviews allow to conclude that the plenum of creative unions in 1988 is characterized by constant growth and development of reflexivity emanating from verbalization. There was a significant shift from collective values towards individual values. The supporting factors were the forethought of the organizers of the activity and the constant analysis and planning of the plenum. The plenum of creative unions was an important milestone in the process of formulating the idea of independence. The question of autonomy and state regime that was mentioned by Mikk Mikiver in the opening words of the plenum and summed up by Indrek Toome was the central issue that was directly or insinuatively discussed during the two days. The most prevalent problem/example was the sustainability of the nation. Thus, it could be said that, emotionally, the plenum was focused on the mental and cultural preservation of the nation, and on the basis of that the main subject was profoundly developed idea of the independence. Largely because of the plenum of creative unions in 1988, where the ideas were intensively generated and vigorously formulated, the vague perception of the independence started to turn to more and more realistic vision, which, in turn, played a significant role in achieving the independence of Estonia just three years later. Ideas are born in exchange of opinions. In the course of the study the author used content analysis and grounded theory on which the qualitative analysis of texts and interviews was based. For the purposes of this study the interviews were conducted with four representatives of the creative unions and one representative of the soviet power. The interviews were conducted with architect Ignar Fjuk, writer Paul-Eerik Rummo, singer and actor Tõnu Tepandi, artist Heinz Valk and the Secretary of the ECP Indrek Toome. The plenums of creative unions are described, for example, in the memoirs of the people who participated in them; in 2003, a conference “15 aastat loomeliitude pleenumist“ (15 years from the plenum of creative unions) was organized; and each year, on the anniversary of the plenum, different articles on the subject are published, but this is the first, and hopefully not the last, academic study on the plenums of creative unions.

El objetivo de esta tesina ha sido analizar la traducción de los chistes lingüísticosformales encontrados en la primera temporada de la comedia de situación “Friends” para presentar al lector el mundo de la traducción audiovisual. Esta tesina se ha centrado en una de las modalidades más importantes de traducción audiovisual en España: el doblaje. El doblaje es un proceso complejo que tiene muchas fases a través de las cuales la traducción original del traductor se puede modificar considerablemente para lograr la sincronización de las imágenes y los sonidos y crear un producto doblado creíble y fácil de disfrutar. Otro aspecto importante es la traducción del humor que no es un elemento que solo existe en las comedias, sino también en muchos otros textos. La mayor prioridad de la traducción del humor es el efecto cómico que pretende el texto original, incluso si eso significa cambiar algunas partes de los chistes o sustituirlos por completo. Durante la traducción, el traductor debe tener en cuenta todos los factores que juegan un papel en este proceso, por ejemplo, los aspectos culturales y los elementos lingüísticos.

The Purpose of this MA thesis is to explain the nuances between those communities that live along the borders of Estonia & Russia and Estonia & Latvia. The connecting thread between these communities is that they are divided by the international borders and yet share family and/or cultural ties across the border. Moreover, they are different in the ways in which they are integrated into the Estonian socio-cultural milieu. Therefore, this research aims to explain the difference between these communities and how nuances in bordering and de-bordering practices of these communities influence the security narratives of Estonia. Methodology of this work is grounded on an ethnographic study of these communities using photographs and text as research material. I use visual autoethnographic studies, which is entrenched in the positionality of the researcher (Bleiker, 2019) as a participant and a witness and thus explain things that are unseen. Photographs from the fieldwork are used in conjunction with the words of the members of the community. Therefore, from a methodological perspective, in this study, I aim to explore the possibilities of using photographs in political science research. From a conceptual standpoint, in this thesis I utilize three different pillars: social constructivism, hegemony, and cultural semiotics to analyze the empirical data - interviews and photographs - obtained from the fieldwork to explain the nuances in social-cultural practices of these communities situated on the borderlands of Estonia.

It is agreed that we have to teach language and its culture together. The aim of the current MA thesis is to create learning materials for teaching culture in FL lessons. The materials introduce practical situations from everyday life and are meant for Year Eight and Nine students. The created learning materials should prepare learners to communicate in intercultural communicative situations. Additionally to developing students’ cultural and language competences, the materials promote reflectional and ICT skills. The collection is designed as a WebQuest taking into consideration the Task-Based approach. Moreover, the materials are digitalised and suitable for both: contact lessons and distance learning.

Se observa que en los dos libros hay un gran número de nombres propios. A primera vista queda clara la estrategia general que la traductora ha tomado al traducir los nombres en RC y en CF. Por su naturaleza, los cuentos de hadas permiten hacer más adaptaciones. RC, al ser destinado a niños mayores que los de CF, tampoco requiere tantas modificaciones o simplificaciones. El caso de RC se ve sujeto también a la importancia de las obras originales y la existencia de traducciones reconocidas en estonio que a cierta medida establece unas pautas a seguir o repetir en la traducción de estas adaptaciones. Mientras que en RC aparecen, por regla general, nombres complejos sin modificaciones igual que en las traducciones completas al estonio o en las versiones originales, en el segundo se ha optado por adaptar los nombres o buscarles un equivalente. Por este motivo, la traducción de los nombres propios en RC es extranjerizante y la de CF domesticante.
