Previously discovered bisubstrate inhibitors exhibit room-temperature phosphorescence when complexed with protein kinase CK2. Such compounds can serve as valuable probes for studying protein kinases in the cell lysates and other biologically derived samples. In the present work, the effect of structural fragments distant from the phosphorescent moieties on the photoluminescence properties of the probes is investigated. Additionally, the influence of oxygen removal on photoluminescence is characterized. The findings of this work contribute to the design of novel, bright probes for CK2.
