Also known as VR, Virtual Reality is a computer-generated three-dimensional medium in which the audience may interact using commands and physical movement (Ryan 2015: 15). By devising a workflow and format for VR theater, this artistic research aims to aid playwrights and screenwriters to draft plays for the ever-advancing Virtual and Extended Reality (XR) mediums. The methodology of this dissertation consists of a literature review, autoethnography, and practice as research. As part of exploring how to bring Virtual Reality elements onto the page, this research describes the development of a writers’ workshop, a practical handbook, an two Extended Reality (XR) plays with scenes set in 360° video and limited interactivity. This artistic research concludes by proposing a development process to write stories in a format denominated as VR play, which fulfills the function of a literary screenplay (Szczepanik 2013: 86) in a Virtual Reality or Extended Reality theater production. Therefore, the VR play marks the completion of the conception of the story and is the seminal source for production documents such as the director’s script, lighting floorplans, technical breakdown of interactions, mood boards, storyboards, narrative path design, axis mapping of actions, and others needed to stage a Virtual Reality play. This dissertation evolves traditional stagewriting and screenwriting to devise a format for the ever-advancing Virtual and Extended Reality medium. By doing so, this artistic research enables storytellers unfamiliar with VR—but familiar with the writing conventions of theater and cinema—to grasp the narrative possibilities of Virtual Reality and find creative fulfillment by drafting stories for it.listelement.badge.dso-type Kirje , Koolieelse lasteasutuse õpetajate arvamused ja kogemused animatsiooni kasutamisel oma õppetöös(Tartu Ülikool, 2023) Vahtramäe, Kadri; Rannastu-Avalos, Meeli, juhendaja; Tartu Ülikool. Loodus- ja täppisteaduste valdkond; Tartu Ülikool. Arvutiteaduse instituutBusiness process simulation is an approach that allows us to perform the "what-if" analysis. With its help, we can analyse the current business process, manually find possible improvements, introduce them, and predict the impact of those changes by running a simulation. Simulation tools take business process models as input, accompanied by the additional details required for simulation, such as resource availability. Yet existing simulation tools support only basic process elements, among which are activities and decision points (gateways). In real life, however, a resource can perform activities not straight after enabling time but instead waiting for a group of activities to gather and then execute them in one go (batch processing), or a resource can prioritise one task over another when both of them are waiting for the execution (task prioritisation). Additionally, process simulation might benefit from introducing events to model various behaviour, for example, setting up a timer for 2 hours or interacting with external entities like calling a client or receiving a message from a client. We call these types of events intermediate events as they happen during a process. This thesis contributes to implementing those concepts above (batch processing, task prioritisation, intermediate events) based on the already implemented simulation engine with differentiated resources. Furthermore, the simulation engine we use as a basis, named Prosimos, does not have a web interface and can only be executed through the command line interface. This, in turn, has limited the adoption of Prosimos in practice. With this thesis, we also aim to diminish the knowledge requirement and allow people with no technical background, like business analysts, to utilise the tool. To achieve this, we implement a brand-new web application from ground up. During the development process, we write unit and integration tests, following the decision table testing approach, to verify the implementation continuously. For evaluation, we analyse the scalability of the newly introduced concepts. The results of this master’s thesis were already partially published as a demo paper.listelement.badge.dso-type Kirje , Kogukonna kaasamine ja ühendamine Pärnumaa kultuurisündmuste näitel(Tartu Ülikool, 2023) Preis, Gertrud; Tartu Ülikool. Sotsiaalteaduste valdkond; Tartu Ülikool. Johan Skytte poliitikauuringute instituutThe study of the foreign policy of small states, including that of Georgia, is often approached from structural standpoints, which tend to analytically silence the complex dynamics that go on within the state. As such, the multi levelness nature of foreign policy is often ignored. In Georgia, important linkages with both the West and and Russia exist. The way in which such influences permeate the state, and feed complex dynamics both between actors domestically, and between local and international actors, in turn feeding foreign policy action, is the focus of this paper. Rather than engaging in the establishment of causal patterns, it aims to improve structural readings of foreign policy, by looking at the constitution of multi-level, cross-border interactions in GD-led Georgia, and building a set of hypotheses for future research. The concepts of official/unofficial, formal/informal foreign policies are put forth. The concept of “linkage” is mobilised in order to highlight the cross-border ties of the various elements of the polity (leadership, political parties and civil society organisations) It is reinvested in order capture the decentralised making of foreign policy, and the dynamic interaction between transnational connections and foreign policy. Further, a hypothesis on the leadership’s, multi-level balancing is introduced on the basis of Morar and Dembinska (2021)’s “Power Broker” framework, which conceives of the elite as actors seeking to maximise their agentive power. This has one main implication: they seek to balance both domestically and internationally, navigating a complex web of connections. The propensity of such trends, in turn, affecting foreign policy line is explored in the final section of the paper.listelement.badge.dso-type Kirje , Tartu Ülikooli Narva kolledži üliõpilaste toimetulek distantsõppega 2020/2021. õa(Tartu Ülikooli Narva Kolledž, 2023) Bušeiko, Ilja; Trubok, Enda, juhendaja; Tartu Ülikool. Arvutiteaduse instituutThe emergence of process mining in business process management has given way to developing algorithms that predict future processes based on historical event logs to improve operational efficiency. Further improvements have followed in the form of real-time prescriptive process monitoring tools, which identify volatile process instances and suggest interventions for upcoming activities to prevent risky execution. One of the main challenges of this practice is communicating interventions to end users in a clear and concise manner. This research was conducted to develop a real-time application that visualises available interventions and their impact on a process instance. The tool helps support process analysts in identifying activities that improve a KPI or circumvent a sub-optimal outcome in a process. A resulting artefact is a form of an operational dashboard - Kairos - that visualises prescriptive process monitoring output.listelement.badge.dso-type Kirje , Media attention influence on the link between corporate social responsibility and financial performance(Tartu Ülikool, 2023) Mammadov, Famil; Lääts, Kertu, juhendaja; Tartu Ülikool. Sotsiaalteaduste valdkond; Tartu Ülikool. Johan Skytte poliitikauuringute instituutAn interest in tolerance and othering as well as an indirect correlation between age and tolerance has inspired this study about youth intolerance in Poland. Although most studies have investigated intolerance in relation to ideologies, this study is not ideology based. The main aim of this research study is to understand reasons behind youth intolerance and othering in Poland. It sets out to do that through conducting semi-structured interviews with fifteen participants between the ages of eighteen to twenty-four, who do not belong to a specific ideological background, based on the assumption that aspects of intolerance exist among all individuals from different ideologies globally. An inductive qualitative content analysis took place, partially aligning with evolved grounded theory in order to analyze data. Many themes occurred during the interviews such as a backlash against the church and the government in Poland, as well as a feeling of Russian threat. However, the main finding of this research that participants expressed was their support towards LGBTQ rights and abortion rights while expressing reservation towards immigrants. Details shared in the interviews indicate this is due to a negative representation in media and a lack of exposure as well as historical narratives in Poland.listelement.badge.dso-type Kirje , Uncovering double standards: a critical assessment of radical enactivism’s treatment of basic minds and departure from relaxed naturalism : master's thesis in philosophy(Tartu Ülikool, 2023) Yaryhina, Anastasiia; Bruno Mölder, juhendaja; Tartu Ülikool. Humanitaarteaduste ja kunstide valdkond; Tartu Ülikool. Filosoofia osakondIn developing REC, Hutto & Myin commit to 'Relaxed Naturalism', a philosophical position very broadly concerned with "thinking about the natural world and our place in it" (Hutto 2023, 2). The articulation of the philosophical program of Relaxed Naturalism was itself an endeavor initiated by Hutto in collaboration with philosopher Glenda L. Satne (2015, 2017, 2018a, 2018b). They define Relaxed Naturalism in opposition to both 'scientific/strict naturalism,' which they deem to be too strict in its dedication to hard sciences, and 'liberal naturalism', which they deem to be too permissive in regards to ‘supernatural’ phenomena. Relaxed Naturalism aims to negotiate a moderate position between these two approaches to naturalism by "draw[ing] upon and harmoniously integrat[ing] the discoveries from a wide range of sciences and disciplines" (Hutto 2022, 165). I assert that a close examination of the treatment of 'basic minds' in radical enactivism undermines REC's proclaimed commitment to Relaxed naturalism. Moreover, I demonstrate how the three core notions utilized in REC's analysis of 'basic minds' — autopoiesis, adaptivity, and normativity — support REC's alignment with strict naturalism rather than relaxed naturalism, as they provide a comprehensive account of basic minds within the framework of natural sciences alone. Insofar as Hutto & Myin deem it unnecessary to employ the extended repertoire of concepts offered by relaxed naturalism, they betray their own argument for its methodological necessity. I demonstrate this by uncovering REC’s double standards that can be found in its treatment of basic minds. REC criticises rival theories for their strictly naturalistic purview of the mind, yet, applies the same perspective in its own treatment of basic minds, thus applying its principles rather unfairly. In my thesis I aim to demostrate how Radical Enactivism’s unfair application of its own principles undermine its commitment to Relaxed Naturalism, particularly regarding its perspective on "basic minds."listelement.badge.dso-type Kirje , Lõunaeesti kõrisulghääliku varieerumine(Tartu Ülikool, 2023) Vaab, Janek; Pajusalu, Karl, juhendaja; Tartu Ülikool.
