Humanitaarteaduste ja kunstide valdkondIn this thesis, I study the role and issues surrounding touch culture from the perspective of consent with the aim of increasing awareness of the importance of consent in achieving positive touch experiences in contact improvisation jams and everyday life. To achieve this, I sought answers to the following questions: Why is discussing touch and communicating one's boundaries important? What are the culturally ingrained factors of negative touch and the obstacles to the functioning of consent? How do we communicate one's boundaries and convey consent in contact with others in contact improvisation jams? What can we learn from the culture of contact improvisation regarding giving-receiving touch and consent, and how can we apply it to everyday life? The first two chapters explore the nuances of giving and receiving touch, as well as the prerequisites and obstacles to effective consent in social spaces. The obtained information is contextualized within the realms of dance and contact improvisation, where nonverbal communication is the primary means of interaction between two movers, revealing the complexity of conveying consent. I conclude that raising awareness of the issues surrounding touch – whose resolution involves respecting one's own and others' boundaries, communicating them, and not assuming them – plays a significant role in fostering a sense of safety in dance culture, particularly in the practice of contact improvisation.Item Tantsu teoreetiline õpe kolme tantsuhuvihariduse asutuse näitel(TÜ Viljandi Kultuuriakadeemia, 2024) Reitalu, Marko; Sööt, Anu, juhendaja; Tartu Ülikool. Today, it is not enough to teach steps, but students also need to open the context, background, representatives, vocabulary, history of what they are learning, which as a common denominator we can call the theoretical side of dance. The purpose of this work was to investigate whether, how and to what extent could the theoretical side of dance be integrated into dance education. Based on the aim, the research questions were formulated: 1) Why is theoretical study of dance necessary in dance education?, 2) How should theoretical study of dance be carried out?, 3) In what proportion/volume could theoretical study of dance be in relation to practical study of dance? As a result of the research, it became clear that 1) the understanding of the theoretical study of dance varies from school to school, 2) students are not always ready to accept the theoretical study of dance, because the study of dance is mostly connected with practical activities, 3) the theoretical study of dance is not the goal of any of the interviewed dance education institutions in itself.Item Vaheala nüüdistsirkuse õppes(TÜ Viljandi Kultuuriakadeemia, 2024) Privis, Daniela; Sööt, Anu, juhendaja; Tartu Ülikool. Humanitaarteaduste ja kunstide valdkondThe purpose of the thesis “The Gray Area in Circus Education” explores the nature and components of the gray area based on personal teaching experience and interviews with other dance teachers. Circus and dance are performance art forms that both use the body as an instrument. While teaching dance to the students of the Folie circus studio, the ability of the students to perform technical elements was noticeable, but also a lack of ability to connect these elements into a single whole was perceptible. In the context of this work, this lack of ability has been defined as gray area. The circus artists are compared to what Michel Foucault calls docile bodies and their objects to Giorgio Agamben's notion of apparatus. Answers to the following questions are sought: 1) how to define the gray area and what does it consist of? 2) how to deal with the gray area in the learning process?
