The aim of this bachelor thesis on the subject The Children Program On Estonian Television In
Autumn 2011, was to find out what kind of broadcasts does the current children programme on
Estonian Television consist of and produce.
To answer the topic, the children's program on Estonian Television was monitored during the period
of three months (01.09.2011 – 30.11.2011). The observation was based on the broadcasts that the
channel presented as „children programme“. Focusing rather on the form, not the content of the
broadcasts, this thesis analyses their duration, origin and choice of characters. In addition the
content of the only children´s broadcast produced in Estonian Television on that period was
examined more closely. The analysis of the show based on the main issues that researchers over the
world have pointed out on the field of children and television.
Current paper starts with theoretical backround of the topic followed by the overview about
children's programms in Estonian Television throughout history. Followed by the explanation of the
method used in this research. The third part consists of the results. After that, there are conclusions,
discussion of the results and the summary.
The results showed that the channel has about 34% of domestic programme of which 10% is aired
for the first time, rest of the programmes aimed for children come mainly from England, France,
Germany and Sweden. This paper also points out that over 50% of the characters presented in the
broadcasts are animated. The broadcast produced in Estonian Television did not have any
significant problems involving the content except the unproportional presentation of genders.
