dc.description.abstractThe aim of this thesis is to demonstrate how Margaret Atwood’s novel Surfacing that was published in 1972, could be viewed as a critique on society and gender roles in the 1960s and the 1970s. It is important to write about these topics as they are still relevant today, fifty years later. The thesis analyses the roles of women in a male dominated society as depicted through the female characters in the novel.et
