The aim of the bachelor’s thesis is to identify non-genetic risk factors for atrial fibrillation and flutter and to examine the impact of genetic risk on the onset of these arrhythmias. Survival analysis methods, including the Cox proportional hazards model and the Aalen-Johansen estimator, are applied to data from the Estonian Genome Centre at the University of Tartu. In addition, the relative importance of both non-genetic factors and the genetic risk score in predicting the risk of developing atrial fibrillation and flutter is compared using Harrell’s C-index. The results show that several non-genetic risk factors as well as the genetic risk score are significantly associated with the risk of developing atrial fibrillation and flutter, with genetic predisposition being the strongest single predictor of these arrhythmias.
