Abstrakt

This master's thesis addresses the transcription of contemporary Kihnu folk songs and the development of teaching materials for general education schools, as the melodies remain largely undocumented and are at risk of disappearing due to reliance on oral tradition and a declining number of active singers. The aim was to create notated teaching materials for the songs text of the "Kihnu nuõrdõ" collection to support folk song teaching through oral tradition. The methodology included the study of archival materials, audio and video recordings, fieldwork with members of the Kihnu community, and the notation of collected songs using MuseScore 4 software. The result is a collection of 52 transcribed songs divided into nine categories, tested at Kihnu School and two other island schools in Estonia, confirming its suitability for teaching Kihnu folk songs
