Satelliitidel on kosmoses t¨o¨otamiseks vaja energiat. See bakalaureuset¨o¨o keskendub 3-¨uhikulise PocketQube’i SUTSu (Strateegiliste Uuenduste Testimise Satelliit) toitealams¨usteemi disainile. T¨o¨o peamisteks eesm¨arkideks oli t¨o¨otada v¨alja akuhalduse alams¨usteemi (BatMan) n˜ouded, leida nende n˜ouete j¨argi sobivad akukandidaadid ning seej¨arel disainida nende akukandidaatidega BatMani esimene protot¨u¨up. T¨o¨o k¨aigus t¨o¨otati BatMani jaoks v¨alja kaheksa n˜ouet ning leiti nende j¨argi sobiv akukandidaat. Akukandidaadiga tehti vaakum- ja l¨uhiseteste, et saada aru, kas see on SUTSu jaoks sobilik. Lisaks disainiti esimene BatMani protot¨u¨up, kuid k˜oikide funktsionaalsustestide tegemiseni ei j˜outud, kuna osa protot¨u¨ubist on vaja ¨umber disainida.
Satellites require reliable power sources to remain operational in space. Most satellites use a combination of primary and secondary power sources: the primary typically being solar cells, and the secondary being rechargeable batteries that supply power when the satellite is in shade. Careful design and testing of power subsystems are essential to ensure the satellite’s reliable operation. This thesis focuses on the development of the Battery Management Subsystem (BatMan) for the three-unit PocketQube Strategic Upgrades Test Satellite (SUTS). The main objectives were to define the requirements of the subsystem, identify a suitable battery candidate based on those requirements, and design and test the first prototype of BatMan. As part of the process, eight subsystem requirements were established, based on which a suitable battery was selected. The battery was tested under vacuum and short circuit to assess its suitability for use in SUTS. In addition, the first prototype of BatMan was designed, but not all functionality tests could be performed, as part of the prototype would have to be redesigned.
