The subject of the present Bachelor thesis is “Representation of Russia as a Topic in Estonian- and Russian-language Version of Postimees in 2010”. The aim of the paper is to explore the main themes that are covered in relations with Russia in the Estonian and Russian-language version of the newspaper Postimees and to identify potential differences in their coverage. This topic is relevant for several reasons. Since the media is one of the main sources of information nowadays, it has an important role in shaping people's attitudes and views of the world. Estonian and Russian-speaking populations of Estonia often follow different media channels, therefore their interpretation of current events might also differ. If these interpretations have very little or nothing at all in common, it might lead to disagreements between the different groups of society in general. For this reason, it is important to explore what are the topics covered in the local Estonian and Russian media outlets, and whether there are differences in reflecting the main issues. The first chapter sets a theoretical framework for the analysis. It focuses on the notion of mediaspace and also on how is Russia represented in the above-mentioned newspapers, taking into consideration the role of international relations in creating that representation. The second chapter gives an overview of the empirical background in the historical development of Estonian-Russian relations, focusing also on recent trends on Russian foreign policy. The third and fourth chapter describe the research questions and selection for the analysis. The present Bachelor thesis is based on the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the articles in the online version of Estonian and Russian-language Postimees in 2010. The research questions and theoretical framework for the thesis were set in a seminar paper conducted on the same subject in 2009. The fifth and sixth chapters present the results and conclusions about the research, based on the research questions set in chapter three. The Bachelor thesis end with a summary both in Estonian and in English, followed by references and appendix.en
