Abstrakt

Literature has shown romantic preferences to be dynamic and changing with time, though often researched at the level of global ideas, leaving the underlying psychological factors less understood. The study explored how internalized romantic micromotives, present in ideal partner preference and relationship climate, vary across age groups. Using a qualitative online questionnaire, 117 participants aged 19 to 68 provided open-ended descriptions of their ideals in romantic contexts. Thematic analysis and quantitative statistics showed that older respondents prioritized connectedness and excitement in a partner, while valuing excitement and security in a relationship. Relationship functioning aspects like respect, boundaries and conflict resolution were regarded as ideal in partner and relationship context by younger respondents. The findings are discussed further with methodological limitations.
