Laboratory tests are important when evaluating a patient’s health and play a major role in making treatment decisions. Reference values are necessary to interpret the results of analyses, which also take into account the special features of the local population. In Estonia, often are used the reference values which are determined by manufacturers. These may not be the most appropriate, because there is no information about the population used to create them. The aim of this master’s thesis is to calculate reference values for three clinical chemistry and immunology analytes based on the Estonian population. These analytes are sodium, creatinine and ferritin. As a result of the work, one general reference range was determined for sodium. Gender-specific reference values were found for creatinine and gender- and age-specific reference values for ferritin. The reference values determined in the work are generally consistent with the values currently in use, but some differences were found. The developed method was tested on newer data. In addition, a user interface was developed during the master’s thesis, which allows both data visualization and determination of reference values.
