dc.descriptionThe aim of this bachelor thesis was to research the collaboration and partnership between business and nonprofit sector. The extent, suitable preconditions, weaknesses and potential for development of these transsectoral partnerships were studied with samples from Estonia. In addition, the thesis offered a set of practical recommendations for nonprofits. At frst, a theoretical overview introduced the characteristics of profit-to-nonprofit partnership, and the potential benefits and risks for both sectors. Additionaly, a chapter focused on the state of the current transsectoral partnerships in Estonia. In-depth interviews with eight respondents representing four notable samples of partnership provided answers to the research question. As strategical partnerships between sectors are yet relatively exceptional in Estonia, this sample consists of collaborations that have found wider feedback within both sectors or in the general public. The research showed that the main incentive of businesses to engage in partnerships was moral obligation to give back to the society. However, image building, broadening of competences and innovation were also seen as potential benefits. Moreover, the impact on organizational culture was also considered substantial. Nonprofits considered partnerships a promising source of material and nonmaterial resources. Next to financial support, nonprofits showed increasing interest towards expert knowhow, contact networks, communication channels etc. The majority of partcipating enterprises were willing to contribute both material and nonmaterial resources. Respondents claimed that companies are beginning to see their consultive role as a more sustainable input compared to sole financial support. The results showed that in general, the fundamental differences of the two sectors were grasped well and neither nonprofits nor companies were pressured with impertinent demands. The respondents agreed that keeping one’s identity and sectoral focus are of great importance. Research indicated that the business sector is financially as well as morally prepared to invest in the civil society. Meanwhile, nonprofits are widening their interpretation of transsectoral partnerships beyond money. Strategic collaborations bring unique benefits to either sector (i.e emotional gain or leadership experience). Therefore, respondents believed in partnerships progressing both vertically (more in-depth) and horisontally (new areas) in the near future.en
