Abstrakt

This master’s thesis analyses the educational project “From Painting to Material” as a form of artistic interpretation in basic school technology education in gender-neutral mixed groups, based on a specific pedagogical case. The aim of the study is to understand and analyse how a specific learning task within a project module functions in a natural learning environment and how pedagogical processes manifest within it. The study is grounded in the principles of the Estonian National Curriculum for Basic Schools (PRÕK 2023), according to which teaching and learning are organised in gender-neutral mixed groups. Students in grades 7–9 interpreted selected paintings and realised their ideas using craft and recycled materials. The study was conducted as a qualitative case study in a general education school in Tallinn, where the project was approached as a holistic and context-bound pedagogical process. Data were collected through pedagogical participant observation, analysis of students’ work, an anonymous questionnaire, and students’ reflections, allowing the phenomenon to be examined from multiple perspectives.
