Abstrakt

The aim of this study was to identify pedagogical methods used by choir conductors to maintain student motivation in lower and upper secondary school choirs, and the factors influencing it. A qualitative approach was used, with data collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using content analysis. The results showed that motivation is shaped by age, competing interests, peer influence, and performance opportunities. Key supporting factors include engaging repertoire, a positive learning environment, and the teacher’s role. Support from parents and school leadership was also important. The findings suggest that maintaining motivation requires a multi-level approach combining pedagogical, social, and external factors. The study provides practical guidelines for choir conductors and contributes to a better understanding of the development and maintenance of young singers’ motivation
