Stylistic features in the prologue of George R. R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones and its Estonian translation

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to give an overview of what interpretative effects are produced using stylistic and lexical features in the prologue of George R. R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones. This is done using the three categories of sensory imagery, evaluation and cohesion. These are then qualitatively analyzed through close-reading to assess how shifts occur between the English source text and Estonian target text, Troonide mäng, especially how effects are reduced, retained, intensified or recreated.
