Ühiskonnateaduste instituutIn my bachelor's thesis, I investigated what changes have occurred in children's psychological well-being assessment between 2013-2021, using Estonian data from the International Survey of Children's Well-being for the years 2013, 2018, and 2021. I focused on 6th grade students' responses about their well-being. I used frequency distributions, cross tabulations, analysis of variance, multinomial regression analysis and T-test to find the research results. Just over half of the children in the survey rate their psychological well-being as average, the proportion of children with a low well-being rating has risen and just under half rate their well-being as high. Autonomy, positive relations with others, and purpose in life were rated highest, and self-acceptance and personal growth were rated lowest. Comparing the 2013 and 2018 results with those of 2021, the biggest changes occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic, with all psychological well-being ratings decreasing. Specifically, girls tended to be more critical than boys about their psychological well-being, which was particularly noticeable in 2021. While in 2013 girls rated themselves lower than boys on self-acceptance and environmental mastery, then in 2021 girls rated themselves lower on their relationships with others and on the purposefulness of their lives. My thesis found that psychological well-being is significantly related to children's subjective evaluations of their home, school and friends. Specifically, children with low psychological wellbeing rate lower than children with medium and high wellbeing in terms of satisfaction with family members, not feeling safe at home and school, and how teachers listen to them. Based on the results of the thesis and the psychological well-being assessments, it can be said that between 2013 and 2021, changes in children's psychological well-being have been on a negative downward trend. In the future, the needs of the child need to be taken into account in order to support and enhance their well-being. It would also be necessary to pay attention to the sources of stress and the ways to mitigate them.Item Ettevalmistus kogemusnõustaja tööks praktiseerijate ja koolitajate vaatepunktist(Tartu Ülikool, 2024) Sulõnd, Anu; Narusson, Dagmar, juhendaja; Tartu Ülikool. Ühiskonnateaduste instituutThe dissertation aimed to identify the change in attitudes of Estonian conscripts before and after the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine. The current international security situation has brought many changes to Estonia's national defense stance, focusing on the increase in defense willingness and threat perception among conscripts. Estonia's national defense relies on a reserve army, including conscripts, and NATO membership. Understanding conscripts’ attitudes towards security and the service makes it crucial to know their national defense stance. The thesis begins with a theoretical overview of conscription and its development, highlighting the attitudes towards conscription in the Baltic states in recent history. It then discusses the security situation in Ukraine, Russia’s behavior, and the impact of the military situation on individual threat perception. The final theoretical chapter addresses the relevance of defense willingness in the context of the war and the attitudes of conscripts, presenting different approaches to the concept. The attitudes of conscripts were examined through frequency distributions and a binary logistic regression analysis, with variables divided into attitudes toward defense willingness and threat perception. The time context was the year 2020/21 before the war began, and 2022/23 after the war began. The results illustrate the relationship between conscripts’ attitudes towards defense willingness and threat perception, with the primary statistically significant demographic factor being the native language. The perception of threat among conscripts has increased following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, raising societal anxiety and stress. Increased threat perception has influenced defense willingness, which has risen since the beginning of the war. The rise in defense willingness is reflected in the changing attitudes of conscripts, who now place a higher value on the necessity of conscription for Estonia's national defense, and are more inclined to volunteer for service. However, while defense willingness has increased, conscripts still value individual freedom of choice in their lives, and most do not want to engage in active service after conscription.Item Tänapäeva vanaduspensionäride tõlgendused oma argipäevast - pensionile siirdumise kogemused(Tartu Ülikool, 2024) Harak, Johanna; Linno, Merle, juhendaja; Tartu Ülikool. Ühiskonnateaduste instituutThe presence of a father for a child is extremely important, as the father develops mental as well as physical skills in the child. Having a father for his son is important because fathers are the primary authority figures for sons and their relationship is an important and invaluable resource for the son's future life. A positive relationship with the father plays a role in creating a positive father image for the son. Fathers' approaches to being a father have been little studied, and fathers have been studied more through the perspective of mothers - so it is important to conduct research with fathers through the fathers themselves. The purpose of my research was to get an overview of the image of the father in the perception of young fathers, how fathers perceive their role in society and the family, how they see their own fathers, and interpretations of the impact of being a father in their family on their sons. In the research, I used a semi-structured interview to obtain data, in which four fathers, who themselves raise children aged 4-12 years, and all of whom have at least one son, participated. The research revealed that modern fathers already have more father roles than just the role of breadwinner, and they are more present for their children than their own fathers were. But despite this, even today, fathers still see themselves strongly in the role of breadwinners, that is, in their opinion, fathers still bring bread to the table.Item Sporditurvalisuse tagamine Tartumaa spordiklubide treenerite vaatest(Tartu Ülikool, 2024) Olgo, Teele; Konks, Karen-Pauliin, juhendaja; Tartu Ülikool. In addition to the effects of maternal drug use on the foetus, the use of addictive substances also has an impact on the newborn baby, causing withdrawal symp-toms. Maternal substance use disorder also has a strong impact on the child's later life. For the well-being of children, I felt that the measures to help them in such situations should be easier to find and more clearly spelt out. There is a lack of a clear overview of what services are available in Estonia for women with substance use disorders and their babies. Therefore, I wanted to investigate the different services that can be offered to women with substance use disorders and their babies, and also to find out what addiction treatment options are available in Estonia. The aim of the thesis is to reflect on the support services available in Estonia aimed at assisting women with substance use disorders and their babies. Based on the aim of the thesis, I set three research questions: 1. What is the work with pregnant women and mothers with substance use disorders and what services are provided? 2. How do professionals characterise the situation of women with a drug dependence disorder? 3. How do professionals assess the effectiveness of their work in assisting women with a drug dependence disorder and their babies? The study found that methadone maintenance treatment is the main addiction treatment used in Estonia, and is offered in various treatment facilities. In addition to methadone treatment, coun-selling services are provided as needed, combined with different therapies and a client-centred approach. Addiction treatment in Estonia is also voluntary. The study has resulted in a reflection on the support services available in Tallinn and a vision, based on the experience of professionals, of what could be done to improve the effectiveness of the support provided at institutional level.
